Rich Halverson

Rich HalversonRichard R. Halverson is an Assistant Professor in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His work aims to bring the research methods and practices of the Learning Sciences to the world of educational leadership by exploring how to access, document, and communicate the practical wisdom of school leaders.

Halverson's research develops conceptual frameworks based on cognitive psychology and classical philosophy to capture the complexity, expertise, and situated nature of leadership practice, and seeks to communicate research findings through development of online, multimedia cases of practice, and video game based tools for professional learning.

Halverson was a teacher and a school administrator in suburban Chicago, and has earned an MA in Philosophy and a PhD in the Learning Sciences from Northwestern University. He is a recent recipient of a National Science Foundation Early Career Award to investigate how school leaders work with teachers to create the capacity for using student achievement data in daily practices of teaching and learning.

Dan Norton

Dan NortonDan Norton is the co-founder of the educational game design & consulting company Filament Games. In addition to co-managing the rapidly growing game production house with his business partners Dan White and Alex Stone, Mr. Norton also develops dynamic game design documents to guide production of projects at Filament, and continues to serve as a game model and interface designer.

Dan started his career as an interactive, graphic, and instructional designer at the Academic ADL Co-Lab. While there, he developed game prototypes both for college level lab safety requirements and professional training in the field of epidemiology for the Center for Disease Control. Additionally, Dan works in the Games Learning and Society group, and has been responsible for GLS Conference branding and web design.

Moses Wolfenstein

Moses WolfensteinMoses Wolfenstein is a doctoral student in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He holds an MA in Educational Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University and is certified in mediation and conflict resolution from the International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution (ICCCR).  He works to operationalize both of these areas in the design of game based tools for teaching and learning. In addition to working with Rich Halverson on school leadership games, Moses is also at work with the Academic ADL Co-Lab on the development of next generation virtual learning environments for secondary school age pupils.

Prior to entering the academic arena, Moses worked as a classroom teacher in the Oakland Unified School District, and assistant director at This Land is Your Land, a summer day camp of outdoor science.  A Los Angelino by birth, Moses received his BA from the University of California, San Diego where he majored in conceptual art with a minor in music.

Jesse Benson

Jesse BensonJesse Benson is a programmer at Filament Games where he works primarily on Interface "glue" programming to make the interface interact with the game engine. In addition to his work on Teaching Evaluation with School Leadership Games, Jesse is working with Filament on the Alutiiq and JASON Ecology Projects. Prior to working with Filament, Jesse worked for UW-Bager Internet Services where he helped manage the sports page on UWBadgers.com including photos, videos, live webcasts and more.

Jesse is currently a Junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he is working towards completion of a dual major in Computer Engineering and Computer Science. His particular interests in these areas are around mobile devices and embedded hardware, and cluster computer networking. In the near future he is particularly interested in developing applications on mobile platforms (which he sees as the future of the web) for a variety of users including school personnel. On the rare occasions when Jesse isn't hard at work, he can probably be found swimming laps, down at the bowling alley (or movie theatre), or playing video games on either a console system or his PC.
